    Allergy Testing

Rock Island Medical Center offers Allergy Testing to our patients.  A skin prick test, also called a puncture or scratch test, checks for immediate allergic reactions to as many as 40 different substances at once. The test is usually done to identify allergies to pollen, mold, pet dander, dust mites and foods. TB Testing

A tuberculin skin test (also called a Mantoux tuberculin test) is done to see if you have ever been exposed to tuberculosis (TB). The test is done in our office by putting a small amount of TB protein (antigens) under the top layer of skin on your inner forearm. If you have ever been exposed to the TB bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis), your skin will react to the antigens by developing a firm red bump at the site within 2 days.

The TB antigens used in a tuberculin skin test are called purified protein derivative (PPD). A measured amount of PPD in a shot is put under the top layer of skin on your forearm. This is a good test for finding a TB infection. It is often used when symptoms, screening, or testing, such as a chest X-ray, show that a person may have TB.

    Annual Physicals

At Rock Island Medical Center we believe that an annual physical exam ensures wellness and good health. Our physician considers it a preventive step and a way to catch a more serious condition before it begins to cause problems. An annual physical can also monitor vitals like weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and other markers.

Our physician uses a physical exam to see how the body is performing. Depending on a patient’s personal health history, physican may choose to focus on certain areas of a physical exam. People with a family history of heart disease may receive additional blood pressure checks, blood tests, and cholesterol screenings. Based on test results, age, and personal health history, it is also an opportunity to discuss future prevention measures. Need to book your Annual Physical Exam? Call us at 954-721-8707 or fill out our contact us form and a member of our team will be happy to assist you!

    PAP Smears

A Pap test is a test of a sample of cells taken from a woman’s cervix. The test is used to look for changes in the cells of the cervix that show cancer or conditions that may develop into cancer.

It is the best tool to detect precancerous conditions and hidden, small tumors that may lead to cervical cancer. If detected early, cervical cancer can be cured.

Pap screen testing should begin at age 21. Routine screening is recommended every three years for women 21-65 years old. For women 30 to 65 years who have a normal Pap test with a negative HPV test, screening every five years is considered adequate. If you would like to schedule a procedure at our office call us at 954-721-8707 or fill out our contact us form and a member of our staff will be happy to assist you!
